Pricing Consultation for Ely Court area at Keilor Cemetery

Consultation has concluded

The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) has constructed a new memorial garden for ashes (cremated remains) in the Ely Court area at Keilor Cemetery.

As per government guidelines regarding the setting of cemetery fees and charges, GMCT is seeking feedback in relation to proposed pricing for cremation and memorialisation services in the new memorial garden, Ely Memorial Walk in the Ely Court area at Keilor Cemetery.

The community is invited to provide feedback about the proposed pricing before close of business on Monday 18 July 2022.

To provide feedback, email pricing@gmct.com.au, or phone 1300 022 298.

Background

GMCT is seeking feedback in relation to proposed pricing for each right of interment for the memorialisation of ashes in Ely Memorial Walk, the new memorial garden at Keilor Cemetery.

Wall Garden

The ashes area placed in the garden bed next to the wall and the location is marked with a plaque on the memorial wall.

Garden Pod

The ashes are placed in a freestanding pod or plinth within a memorial garden in the Ely Memorial Walk area.

Base Plaque

Ashes are placed in the garden bed and the location is typically marked with a bronze plaque which may be laid on a rest or on the edging around the garden bed.

Family Tree

A family tree memorial features several plaques around the base of the tree, with the ashes interred in an urn under the canopy.

Memorial Seat

A memorial seat is dedicated with a bronze memorial plaque, and in selected locations ashes can be interred at the base of the memorial seat.

How much will the ROI cost?

Cemetery fees are determined according to a cost-recovery model, which accounts for the cost of the grave, as well as GMCT’s perpetual maintenance obligations.

The fees charged for rights of interment at GMCT cemeteries help ensure GMCT can maintain each of the cemeteries it is responsible for in perpetuity. The perpetual maintenance obligations of Class A cemetery trusts are outlined in the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003 (Vic).

Fees outlined here will be approved by the Department of Health through a formal process. Details of the process can be found on the Vic Health website.
